Hornsea Fishing Club

Hornsea Sea Angling Club

Hornsea SAC is a Sea Angling Club that promotes the pastime / hobby of sea angling through a series of beach matches based around its headquarters of the Marine Hotel on Marine Drive Hornsea. Even the landlord is a regular fisherman and club member.

Hornsea Sea Fishing Club - Sea Angling At Hornsea On The Holderness Coast

The club has an Annual General meeting to establish its committee prior to each season. It usually follows that the encumbent officers are re elected season after season, not sure if this because the current committee are good or if no one fancies taking over the various jobs of Chair /Secretary/ Treasurer. We like to think its because the current guys are organised and that the club is efficiently run.

Members are invited to rejoin the club each season at the AGM which is usually held in mid September, new members are always welcome to join a very sociable group who are also very competitive in their match fishing. Subscriptions are payable before the 1st league match.
Currently this is £35 .There are 14 matches each season for both Senior and Junior members and these are split Seven before Christmas and Seven after Christmas. Of these 14 matches there are perpetual trophies awarded for the winner of each match both Senior and Junior. The 14 matches are also split equally for biggest bag weight and biggest fish. There is also prize money which is the members subscriptions repaid over the season, it usually follows that if you win one match you get your subs back in prize money.
It however seems to be the main drive to get your name engraved on trophies, some of which are nearly 60 years old.

Recently a Cod League has been added, any member can join for a nominal fee (£5) and at the year end the 3 anglers with the highest total weight of Cod caucht receive a cash prize and the prestigous King Cod Trophy !!

During the season, matches weights are kept of individual catches and at the seasons end when the Dinner Dance is held there are trophies for both Senior and Junior members in the categories of Biggest Fish, Biggest Bag. Specimen Fish, Knockout, Mystery Pairs and also £50 prizes for the biggest fish of Five species, Bass, Cod, Whiting, Skate and Flat Fish.

In all there are plenty of chances to win a trophy and have it presented in front of your family, friends and club members at the Annual Dinner Dance.

    Hi Guys,

Very familiar with marks north of the Tyne and those in South Wales but I’ve got the opportunity to spend a day fishing on the Holderness Coast next monday and I don’t know the area. I’m guessing lug, crab, squid, etc, for bait but could someone suggest some on form marks between Spurn Head and Hornsea (getting there late morning – low tide is early afternoon and fairly small I think). Also, could you recommend a good tackle shop for bait supply?

Happy to return the favour if anyone is visiting South Wales, etc.

    Cheers,

    Pete

check the link out below for bait and tackle shops, your best bet would be Keith at East coast tackle (Hornsea) but give him a call first to order your bait, he will also give you advice on the area

    cheers Alan
